ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan, This is a system used by the United States Postal Service since 1963 for identifying states and region, while Postal Codes are used in other countries for the same purpose. This means that ZIP codes are used in the United States and other countries, while some other countries refer to this pattern as Postal Codes.

So, when you are want to fill in your country ZIP or Postal Code, you dont need to search for zip codes like, Ogun Postal Code, Abia Zip Code, Owerri Postal Code or any other city or state’s postal code. All you need do is fill in the Postal Code that is Internationally allocated to Nigeria. You can make use of 110211, 234010 or 001706. Using any of these will work in your situation.

The Nigerian postal code is designed by NIPOST (Nigerian Postal Service ) and is usually made up of 6 digits. NIPOST divided the country into 9 regions, that is why our postal code in Nigeria start from 1 through 9. The second and third digits, when combined with the first digit, it refers to the dispatch district for outgoing sorting. For the last three digits, it refers to the exact location in the region where the post is to be made.

So, when you are filling in your local postal code for instance on websites within Nigeria or services that need to make a delivery to your very location, you can then start looking for your city’s or State’s postal or zip code as some might still refer to it (Remember, it’s referred to as ZIP code only in the US).
